Listen To The Angel

© Text: Hans Henschel, Musik: Jürgen Beyer, 2005. Deutsche Übertragung

chorus: Be awake, an angel's passing,
   Care to learn his will.
Keep your eyes peeled on the street,
Do attend to whom you meet,
Listen to the angel
   and be still!
1 verse: God sent Gabriel to Nazareth.
Virgin Mary was frightened and surprised.
The angel kindly greeted her,
He payed deference to the girl
Who's chosen by the Lord to bear the Christ.
2 Mary met her cousin named Elizabeth.
To see her at the hillside she escaped.
While tryin' to hide her pregnancy
For to preserve her decency
The baby in her cousin's belly leapt.
chorus: Be awake, an angel's passing,
   Delight for sure is nigh.
Keep your eyes peeled on the street,
Do attend to whom you meet,
Listen to the angel
   and comply!
3 verse: God sent angels down to Bethlehem.
A light the shepherds never seen before
Directed them upon their way
To find the baby in the hay.
They left their flocks and hurried to adore.
chorus: Be awake, an angel's passing,
   Strive for his advice.
Keep your eyes peeled on the street,
Do attend to whom you meet,
Listen to the angel
   and arise!
